The French Flyway Training Kit (FTK) is here


Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso - The newly produced French language version of the Flyway Training Kit was launched by representatives of Wetlands International,BirdLife International, the Ramsar and African Eurasian Waterbird Agreement(AEWA) Secretariats at the Ramsar African Regional Preparatory Meeting held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 3-8 October 2011.

The first copy of the French language FTK was presented to the Ramsar National Focal Point for Burkina Faso, Ms. Andrea Ouedraogo at the meeting by Dr Aimé J. Nianogo, Regional Director for the IUCN Central and Western African Programme, Mr. Stephen Flink from Wetlands International and Ms. Evelyn Moloko from the UNEP/AEWA Secretariat, who assured participants that further distribution of the FTK was currently underway for the National Focal Points and other target institutions. The Ramsar and AEWA Secretariats and the Dutch Government supported the production and dstribution of the FTK.

The importance of the FTK was highlighted by Mr. Abdou Salam Kane, the Senegal National Focal Point for AEWA and CMS as providing the basis for a national training course in the Djoujd National Park.

The internet based open access Critical Site Network Tool (CSN) Tool was also presented to delegates of the Ramsar Regional meeting who were strongly encouraged to ensure greater national and international use of these valuable flyway instruments to support the conservation of wetlands and migratory waterbirds.

The FTK and the CSN Tool are two of the main products developed under the Wings Over Wetlands (WOW) Project, the largest flyway conservation project ever carried out in the African-Eurasian region. The WOW Project was successfully implemented from 2006 - 2010 and was a joint effort between Wetlands International, BirdLife International, the UNEP/AEWA Secretariat, Global Environment Facility (GEF) the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, UNOPS, UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre and a range of other local partners in Africa and Eurasia has been an important initiative funded by The and many others partners including the German Government, the UNEP/AEWA Secretariat and among many other donors.
