A Flamingo conservation champion passes on

Wetlands International Africa is saddened to learn of the passing away of Dr. Brooks Childress, the chairman of the Flamingo Specialist group.

Wetlands International’s Taej Mundkur (Dr.) remembers how Dr. Childress took on the honorary job of Chair of the FSG and did a most wonderful job revitalizing the group and organizing support. He successfully used a logical consultative approach to develop a strategy and action plan for the flamingo species that dealt with some of its main challenges. He will be fondly remembered for the key negotiating role he played in halting the construction of a Soda Ash plant on Tanzania’s Lake Natron.

The interest, drive and dedication that people like Brooks bring to conservation – and importantly choose to volunteer and work with Wetlands International in this endeavor is something we must cherish”, says Dr. Mundkur WIA extends its deepest condolences to Dr. Childress’s family. He will be greatly missed by conservationists and researchers the world over.
