WIA welcomes a special guest

On Tuesday 5 November, 2009, Mr. Gerben De Jong, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Netherlands to Senegal visited Wetlands International Africa. He was accompanied by Programme Officer, Mr. Alioune Diallo.

His visit was a courtesy call to Wetlands International Africa, as a beneficiary of the Institutional Support from the Netherlands Embassy in Senegal, as well as to discuss programmes and strategies currently being implemented within the framework of wetlands conservation and biodiversity. After an overview of the mission, objectives, projects and challenges of Wetlands International Africa in the sub-region presented by Regional Director, Mr. Ibrahima Thiam, a productive discussion was held around the links between poverty and biodiversity conservation, with an emphasis on Wetlands International Africa’s role in the Regional Marine and Coastal Conservation Programme for West Africa (PRCM) and the innovative experiences which the organization has developed in order to strengthen community livelihoods.
