Wetlands International and the region of Saint Louis (North of Senegal) crusading against the floods

Like most West African countries, Senegal is facing a wave of unprecedented flooding which is most visible in wetlands areas.
The region of Saint Louis in northern Senegal is currently facing this phenomenon with entire neighbourhoods in this historic town are still under rain-water. Wetlands International in partnership with the district of Saint Louis organised a workshop with local elected officials on wetlands management and flooding. In a context marked by the new surge of floods in Senegal and West Africa due to climate change, the workshop looked primarily to inform local elected officials about the wetlands’ functions, values and services, identify with the officials what  causes the floods, and through a guided field visit the ground work being implemented to mitigate the impacts of flooding in the region.
